Before the show

Do your homework

If you’ve never seen the show before, consider getting hold of a CD of songs from the show or a cast recording. So-called ‘jukebox musicals’ based around the hits of a given artist (like Mamma Mia/Abba and We Will Rock You/Queen) have become hugely popular because the audience is familiar with the songs.  There’s no reason you shouldn’t be singing along to other classic musicals if you’ve brushed up before hand. Why not play the CD while travelling to the theatre to really get into the mood? Visit Dress Circle who specialise in show CDs and cast recordings.

Some West End productions are based on famous books and having read the book will heighten your appreciation of the show. You no doubt know that Lord of the Rings is based on Tolkien’s famous trilogy.  But have you read Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, Gregory Maguire’s novel on which the musical was based?

Tickets

When you receive your tickets, be sure that you keep them in a safe place at home before your trip and somewhere safe about your person on the way to the theatre. Should you lose your tickets, Box Office staff will be happy to help but be prepared to wait till all customers who have arranged to collect their tickets have been served. You’ll need to prove your identity.  You will also need the credit card you used to make the original booking.

Eating out

London restaurants are very good at catering to the pre-theatre crowd.  Many offer fixed price set menus that represent great value and ensure that you will have finished your meal with plenty of time to get to the theatre. If you prefer to eat later, there is no shortage of quality West End restaurants open late into the night.

If you’re unsure of where to eat before the show, then by all means give our customer service staff a call on 0871 789 20 12. They’ll be happy to make recommendations and can even book certain restaurants on your behalf. A glass of wine with dinner before the show is never a bad idea to help you relax and get in the mood for a fabulous night out.
