I’d Do Anything

The BBC’s I’d Do Anything began airing on BBC One at 7.30pm Saturday 15 March 2008. I’d Do Anything will find one actress to play the role of Nancy and three boys who will alternate in the title role of the orphan Oliver Twist. Soon the actresses will also need to gain viewers' votes to stay in the competition to win their West End role. Meanwhile a 12 boys will be chosen by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Oliver! producer Cameron Mackintosh to appear in the live broadcasts from programme three. Unlike the Nancys, the wannabe Olivers will not face a public vote, but they will be required to gain approval from Lloyd Webber and the panel , including John Barrowman, Denise Van Outen and Barry Humphries - to secure a place in the semi-final.

Oliver! is set to go to the Duruy Lane theatre this year, It goes on sale Monday the 7th of April

 

Flashdance - TAKE YOUR PASSION, MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Set in Pittsburgh, USA, Flashdance tells the story of 18 year old Alex, a welder by day and ‘flashdancer’ by night, whose dream is to obtain a place at the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy. Based on the Paramount Pictures film (Screenplay by Tom Hedley and Joe Eszterhas, story by Tom Hedley)  The show features an iconic score including the smash hit "Maniac", along with “Manhunt”, "Gloria", “I Love Rock & Roll” and the Academy Award winning title track “Flashdance - What a Feeling".

The show is starting its regional tour in September, visiting Manchester, Edinburgh, York, Oxford and Southampton, with a possibility for a West End transfer in early 2009. Watch this space for more details!

 

Three Sexy Ladies. One Lucky Devil! - The Witches of Eastwick 

Marti Pellow (Wet, Wet, Wet, Chicago) stars as the devilish Daryl Van Horne in The Witches of Eastwick. The show starts its regional tour shortly, this is a bewitching musical based on the Warner Brothers motion picture starring Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer and Cher.

When three desperate housewives in mid town America wish for the man of their dreams they get far more than they bargain for. All hell breaks loose – quite literally – when Daryl Van Horne arrives in their sleepy town. The mysterious Darryl seduces each of the women in turn, teaching them how to further their powers and creating a scandal in the town. The women come to realise that Darryl is corrupting them and the town, and resolve to exile him from their lives.

The Witches of Eastwick maybe flying to the West End next year.

 

Wisteria Lane coming to the West End

The rumours are starting to fly about Desperate Housewives the Musical; In an interview with Heart radio, Kyle MacLachlan, who plays Orson Hodge in the hit US show, said: "I think it is a great idea. It makes sense. Mark (Mark Cherry, the series’ creator) has said that when he finishes his seven years at ABC he plans to go to Broadway and move into the musical world so maybe he does have some designs in that way. That's all he's said so far."

 

Pete Doherty

Pete Doherty and his ex-band mate Carl Barat from the Libertines are rumoured to be penning a stage musical. It has been stated that they were approached by the Donmar Warehouse where the show is due receive its world premiere in 2009. The outline for the show is about an up-and-coming band struggling to make it to the top. The musical could feature up to 20 new songs written by the duo.

 

Fight Club The Musical - a stage version of the cult film

David Fincher told MTV US “One of the things I want at the 10-year anniversary is to do “Fight Club” as a musical on Broadway. I love the idea of that.”

The show is in early stages of development and nothing has been decided apart from the Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk has agreed to be involved and Trent Reznor has expressed interest in developing the music. Will Brad Pitt take the role as Tyler Durden? What this space for more information.

 

The Wedding Singer

The show, based on the 1998 Adam Sandler movie, was a smash hit on Broadway and started its regional tour this month; the show could end in the West End.

The fun show currently stars Natalie Casey (Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps) and Jonathan Wilkes (Guys and Dolls and Cinderella.)

 

Simply Cuban

Simply Red expected to take their songs to the West End in a new musical. Tracks by the group led by singer Mick Hucknall will be given a "Latin makeover" for the show with choreography by Arlene Phillips. Rumoured to be coming to the West End soon.
